Murder By Death
Lost River
2012
From album Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon
Murder By Death’s songs usually aren’t autobiographical and this one is likely no different but frontman Adam Turla is great at creating pictures and stories for his songs. This one about someone pining for their lover to come back to them and like most Murder By Death songs it could easily be set in the year 1819 as it could be in 2019. It slowly builds and then flows along easy going. Samantha Crain lends vocals that are so good you wish she’d join MBD as another member. They use horns along with the cello, a fixture of MBD, to enhance what might be the best song of their extremely underrated career.
