Favorite Songs of the 2010s # 14 “Lazarus” By David Bowie

David Bowie

From the album Blackstar

An all time legend goes out on top. David Bowie knew he was dying and used some of his last time on Earth to create a work in Blackstar that looked back on his life knowing it would soon end. The opening line to this song is “look up here I’m in heaven.” It was shocking that an artist could be that close to the end and create something that good, something that could only come from someone close to the end. It’s not just the lyrics, the music puts you in a bittersweet mood immediately. We’re sad he’s gone but very glad he was here.
