Vancouver’s Black Mountain came to Asheville this weekend and while the super dork part of me is a little disappointed they didn’t go out of their way to play in Black Mountain somewhere it was a good show.
The first act was Ryley Walker who’s drummer was incredibly impressive. I had to get where I could see and just watch what he was doing, really unique and really cool.
Black Mountain has a throw back almost 70s rock kind of sound. I’ve had a couple of their songs on my computer for years and when I saw they were coming on a Saturday I thought the time was finally right to give them a real chance. They kept me entertained the whole set and I picked up a CD on my way out. New backup vocalist/keyboardist Rachel Fannan really shined and is a great addition to the band with it’s other new members.
