Usually Matt Berninger’s lyrics are abstract but it doesn’t get much more straight forward than repeating “I need my girl.” And the Dessners’s guitars perfectly compliment his voice. The National released two of the best albums of the 2000s and followed them up with three more excellent albums. Ask five fans which is best and you might get five different answers. The same is true of their songs. I could have put the majority of the songs from the Trouble Will Find Me album in this spot.
