Favorite Songs of the 2010s # 57 “33 God” by Bon Iver

Bon Iver

33 God

2016

From album 22 A Million

Justin Vernon is certainty not afraid to take some risks lyrically. This song is made by goofy lines like “I’d be happy as hell if you stayed for tea,” “Well, I better fold my clothes,” and of course “Staying at the Ace hotel.” Of course none of this would work without the incredible music backing it, as this is a good point on the Bon Iver project’s evolution from dude with an acoustic guitar in the woods to basically this generation’s Radiohead. I don’t know if a song called God is supposed to be fun, but it is.
