Father John Misty
I Love You, Honeybear
2015
from album I Love You, Honeybear
Father John Misty said he set out to right an album about real love, not the idealized love you usually hear about in songs. He definitely did that. And of course he decided to call the thing I Love You, Honeybear, I’d expect nothing less from the man who’s shows (at least at the time, I haven’t seen him recently) included jokes, as in stand up comedy jokes, not just making a funny observation and a lengthy Q&A session. But this song and the album that took its name are very serious. I love note to his wife that includes his flaws and failings and lines like:
The future can’t be real, I barely know how long a moment is
Unless we’re naked getting high on the mattress
While the global market crashes
It’s brilliant.
