Japandroids manage to get a lot of sound out of two people and The House That Heaven Built is probably their best song. There are plenty of places to sing along with the whoa-ohs and lines like “your not mine to die for anymore, so I must live” and the “tell em all to go to hell” chorus. Just a really good rock song written well after numerous critics have pronounced rock dead. So maybe it’s not dominating the radio anymore but it’s there if you want to look. I wasn’t a fan of Japandroids follow up album Near to the Wild of Life but Celebration Rock still holds up seven years later.
